Who or what is a Padweasel?
Share
Greetings! Welcome to my very first blog post, where I'll be introducing myself and answering a few questions that no one has yet asked.
I'm Kit Harker, owner and creative genius (it's true. My mum said) behind Padweasel.
"But Kit!" I hear no one cry, "What exactly is a Padweasel?"
Excellent question. If I ever find out, I'll let you know. A mythical winged beast? A Dickensian slumlord? ("Pass tea and crumpets t' Mr Padweasel, Dorcus. He'll be needing t' sustenance for t' evening orphan beatings.") A type of sprocket? (what is a spro... No. It's not the time to go down that rabbit hole).*
All you need to know is that it's the name I came up with, under which I publish my writings and drawings.
"But Kit! Who exactly are you?"
Well, who I am exactly is none of your business, you cheeky pup. But generally, I'm a writer and illustrator from the frozen north east of England. I live in a Northumbrian village so small that for several years Ordnance Survey left it off the map, and share my tiny house with my faithful hound, Paddy, and the ever present threat of persistent dry rot.
Do you like ghost stories?
I was just coming to that. I LOVE ghost stories. I love ghost stories and spookiness so much so that I recently got myself a part time job in a haunted house (more on that another time). Doesn't have to be ghosts, of course. The dark twists in the original Grimm's fairytales are a constant inspiration. As the tagline says "happily ever after not guaranteed..."
What else do you like?
Eccles cakes and kittens (not on the same plate).
Will you be writing more books?
Oh, yes. I have lots of stories waiting to be let loose on the world. Lots of ghosts and ghouls whose tales need telling. And I'm hoping to hear some of yours in return! Because there is nothing better than cuddling up in front of the fire and scaring yourself witless.
Will all your blogs be this rambling?
Probably. But I do have a sort of plan for them. I'd like to share books I've enjoyed and (spooky) places I've visited and illustrators I admire. I'll talk about upcoming works in progress and ideas for new books and drawings. Also cake. I imagine there will be a lot of mention of cake.
Why is this blog called 'News'?
Sweet of you to notice. Can't work out how to change it.
Is that it for now?
Yes. Thanks for reading!
*it's a wheel with teeth. Sounds like something we should be avoiding at all cost.
